When should you accept a collision insurance deal?

Your brain is one of the most important organs in your body — and it is also one of the easiest to damage in an auto collision. If you believe that you have a brain injury, or if an impact were great enough to cause one, it could be a good idea to err on the side of caution. Many traumatic brain injuries in Texas go unreported or unnoticed for the first day or two.

It may not make sense that you would not notice the symptoms of a brain injury immediately. However, your symptoms may not appear immediately. Furthermore, the stress of a collision could shift your focus away from your own physical condition for quite some time. This is why maybe a good idea for you to consider all the possibilities before you sign any agreements or statements regarding your collision.

The Mayo Clinic states that some symptoms of your TBI could show up weeks after the events that caused your injury. Legally speaking, you may have the option to make a large number of choices in those few weeks:

  • What you say on police reports
  • How you decide to pursue a diagnosis
  • Which agreements you may make with insurance companies

You would need to know the exact nature of your injury in order to determine what kind of long-term or acute care you may need. Unfortunately, doctors may not realize the severity of your condition until all of the symptoms manifest. While there is certainly a timeline involved governing the legal proceedings surrounding any automobile collision, you would, in some cases, be able to apply for extensions for certain deadlines if they were medically necessary.

It is often wise to make sure you have all the information about your condition before you agree to any type of compensation. However, each situation is different. Please do not view this as legal advice. It is only meant to be background information.
